How do I purchase medical marijuana in Florida?

To purchase medical marijuana in Florida you need to have an order from a certifying physician stating that you have a qualifying medical condition. If you have a qualifying condition and receive an order from a physician you can purchase from a dispensary.

According to the State of Florida’s Department of Health’s Office of Medical Marijuana (OMMU) there are a handful of conditions that qualify a patient to receive a recommendation for Medical Marijuana from a certified physician. Qualifying Medical Conditions Include:
  • Cancer
  • Epilepsy
  • Glaucoma
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
Additionally, the Office of Medical Marijuana expands the Qualifying Medical Conditions to include:
  • Medical conditions of the same kind or class as or comparable to the others listed.
  • A terminal condition diagnosed by a physician other than the qualified physician issuing the physician certification.
  • Chronic nonmalignant pain caused by a qualifying medical condition or that originates from a qualifying medical condition and persists beyond the usual course of that qualifying medical condition.
It is possible that you may qualify under the “Medical conditions of the same kind or class as or comparable to the others listed.”

It is not difficult to get your medical card as long as you have one of the qualifying conditions listed above. 

There are two main fees associated with having your medical marijuana card in Florida:

  • Annual State Registration Fee
  • Certified Physician Visit roughly every 210 days

You have to pay a yearly fee to the State of Florida, which is about $80.

You must also see a physician roughly every 210 days as that is how long your orders will last. Most physicians charge between $125-200 for the initial visit and slightly less for subsequent visits.
